THE SECOND FEATURE FOR DOWNERS GROVE

After the Movie, an Upscale Strip Club Near Downers Grove

Downers Grove has one of the best movie nights in the suburbs. The Tivoli on Highland Avenue opened on Christmas Day 1928 and still shows films on a single big screen in the room it was built for, a short walk from the restaurants downtown. It's a great first half of a night. But the credits roll, downtown empties out, and the evening is only half over. The Gold Room is the second feature, about 25 minutes away.

It's a show in its own right. If the Tivoli is one big screen in the room it was built for, The Gold Room is a room built around sound and light: more than 50,000 watts of sound, 48 fixtures overhead, and LED walls carrying custom live visuals mixed on Resolume. Taken together, it matches the specs of major music venues, and on a big night the bass comes up through the floor.

The cast is why you came. World-class entertainers rotate across several stages all night, and private dances are there for anyone who'd like a front-row seat of their own. For something more private still, the champagne rooms are set apart from the main floor, and a VIP table with its own host is one phone call away at (708) 375-1111.

If you skipped dinner to make the showtime, the kitchen keeps going until 4 AM. Start with chips and guacamole or an order of waffle fries, then move on to a burger, mini filet sliders or a 16oz NY strip. An early show followed by a late dinner here is a perfectly good order of events.

Even the late screening lets out with hours to spare: the club is open until 5 AM, every night. Guests must be 21 or older, and the dress code is smart casual, so think dinner-and-a-movie clothes rather than gym clothes.

From Downtown Downers Grove

Take Main Street north (it becomes Highland Avenue) to I-88 and head east on the tollway. I-88 runs straight into the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290); stay on it a couple of miles and exit at 25th Avenue. Go north on 25th Avenue to Lake Street and turn left. The Gold Room is about a mile along, on your right; if you reach Mannheim Road, you've just passed it. Allow about 25 minutes. Parking on site is ample.
